Timothy Griffith Profile

Timothy Griffith, born in St. Louis, began painting in 1968. He briefly attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in 2020.
After his Cum Laude graduation he set up studio in Rockford Illinois. He is an active member of the Rockford Art Guild, Freeport [IL] Art Museum, the Coliseum Museum in Oregon IL, Galesburg [IL] Community Art Center, and Peoria [IL] Art Guild, and a recent past member of ArtPop Street Gallery in Charlotte SC, Oak Park Art Legue in Chicago IL, and Sidestreet Studio Arts in Elgin IL.
Since 2015, he has received 14 art awards, including 3 in 2025 (2 Best in Show and 1 Honorable Mention).
Griffith’s artwork blends many styles, reflecting art’s evolution. Inspired by past aesthetics, he infuses his work with a modern twist, creating contemporary masterpieces. His works feature a sense of place, mood, drama and emotion, influenced by Romanticism, Surrealism, & American Regionalism. His recent work adopts a Precisionism, reminiscent of O’Keeffe’s.

My artistic foundations formed in my youth by the work of Norman Rockwell, the TV cartoons of Jay Ward (Fractured Fairy Tales, Bulwinkle, etc.), and shortly after, Dali, Rembrandt, with color influence by Van Gogh. After a couple of decades, I had evolved away from those graphic beginnings to an evolved personal style, combining influences of Mannerism, the Baroque, Romanticism, Surrealism, with American style influences of Regionalism and Precisionism.
With such an eclectic blend of historic art & artist styles, accompanied by a mastery of traditional techniques and development of new approaches, my work is starkly unique; imbued with narrative, mood, emotion, and brazenly unapologetic.
Regardless of the subject genre (figurative, portrait, still life, land/sea scape), I compose a compressed & altered background perspective, bringing the subject to the perceived foreground and nearly spilling forward out of the art in front of you.
